Clayton had the honor of meeting and performing for George Crumb at the George Crumb at 80 Music Festival to celebrate the life of this avant-garde composer.
The program featured works by Crumb, John Drumheller, and Paul Elwood. The artist roster included his daughter soprano Ann Crumb, the Kronos Quartet and Crumb's Black Angels, with CU artists and guests; among them were pianist David Korevaar and violist Erika Eckert.
Mr. Crumb's career started at the University of Colorado Boulder and has become an icon in American music, influencing a generation of composers, musicians and performers. This modern composer is known for his use of unique timbres and amplified instruments within his work, which earned him a Pulitzer Prize for music in 1968 and a Grammy in 2001.
